The name

Why Scriptorium

In medieval monasteries, the scriptorium was the room where manuscripts were copied and illuminated: slow, precise work, made to last for centuries.

That is the spirit in which we build websites: every project crafted in the details you see and in the ones you don't, such as speed, accessibility and security.

Scriptorium Web Venezia grew out of the experience of Giovanni Vangelista, a web developer who started with HTML, PHP and WordPress and expanded alongside his clients’ projects into SEO, advertising, analytics and automation.

Beyond client work, he is closely involved in business ventures such as Art and Wine Lab, founded with Cecilia Simic: a daily test of what a website needs in order to sell and take bookings.

The journey

From hand-written code to automation

  1. The foundations: HTML, PHP and WordPress

    It all started with building websites in HTML, PHP and WordPress: the best school for understanding how the web really works, from server to browser.

  2. Getting found: SEO and advertising

    A website nobody finds is of little use. That led to SEO, Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns, and measurement with Google Analytics.

  3. Working smarter: automation and bots

    With n8n and Telegram and WhatsApp bots came the connections between different tools and the automation of clients’ repetitive processes.

  4. Today: websites looked after end to end

    Today we use modern JavaScript technologies such as Astro alongside WordPress for very fast websites, and we look after the sites we build or take over: maintenance, hosting, domains and renewals.
